Song of the Week, AND Song of the Year number two!

I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by. It's been jam packed with goings on too! Again, I had to think long and hard about this one. I've been pondering it over for a couple of months now. Today I decided on this one. This year I've been listening to a lot of soundtracks. That's one of the reasons for this as the Song of the Year for 2014. Another is that this is simply a beautiful piece of music and it never fails to invoke amazing and pure emotions in me. The other reason is that this year has been full of endings. A lot of things have "ended, once and for all." Sometimes it has been the best thing that could have happened. Other times it has been frustrating, devastating and heart breaking. I feel that this particular piece sums it all up in one. All of the rises and the falls, and the swell at the end in preparation for the end of this year and the beginning of the next.

Flyleaf - Believe In Dreams

It's been a funny week. Almost nothing has felt right, my mind has been all over place, completely unsettled, and my heart has been broken repeatedly withing a few small days. This song has been calming to no end when I have needed something to help me relax again.

Rise Against - Making Christmas

My fiancé and I put this album on at the beginning of the week and quite frankly it has been in my head ever since. With thanks in no small part to him, the bugger. ;)

This week is a special one. While I have been listening to this quite a bit, it holds significance today. I love you so much.

Stone Sour - Wicked Game

I absolutely love this cover and his voice. I've wanted more mellow songs this week and this song has been repeatedly put on.

All Time Low - Weightless

I've been listening to these guys a lot this week.

Skillet - Rise

This song has been coming on my shuffle a lot during my travels this week. I really like Skillet, and this song is one of my favourites mainly because the end reminds me of Cry Little Sister from The Lost Boys soundtrack. Awesome film!

We The Kings - Check Yes Juliet

We The Kings. The bassist is man called Charles Trippy. For about two years now he has been battling a cancerous tumor in his brain. This week he was finally taken off chemo. I am proud of how brave he was through the whole thing, continuing to post honest videos about his struggle on his YouTube channel CTFxC. This one's for you Charles.

How To Destroy Angels (Deadmau5 remix) - Ice Age

This song has had me chilled out all week. And the original version is just as pretty sounding.

Linkin Park - One Step Closer

Can't beat a bit of Linkin Park sometimes.

Peter Gabriel - The Tower That Ate People

I came across this song a couple of months ago. I liked it, downloaded it, and then didn't listen to it again. Until this week when it came on shuffle. It reminds me of my fauvism project for art class. I created a huge tower like monster that wanted to eat EVERYTHING.

Zebrahead - Rescue Me

I need to get back into the routine of writing. I want my book to be finished and published. I have most of the details and developments figured out, and I've started working on my inspiration boards.
One thing that has kept me motivated in doing this is my writing playlist. It's full of songs that make me feel something. This is one of them, and it's one of the most influential songs for the creation of my world and characters.

I've been in the mood for chilled out music a lot this week. So, obviously, I've been listening to my acoustic playlist most of the time. This has been one of my favourites that has popped up this week.

A day late, I know.
I don't know what it is exactly about this song that I love so much. I think it's a great song to listen to when you're traveling about. Or this song combined with rainymood.com is just so relaxing.

This song makes me think of someone very special to me. I've been listening to it a lot this week, and every time I do I think of them.

Boys Like Girls - The Great Escape

This morning my song of the week was completely different.
Then this came on my shuffle and I realised just how appropriate it is.
A new start, and a great escape from this dead end place and all of the badness that it holds.

Jolly Sailor Bold - Pirates of the Caribbean

I'm not aware of the singer's name, but this cover version of Jolly Sailor Bold gives me shivers.
Every time I hear it I get goosebumps. Her voice is perfect and I've been loving this cover this week.

Bowling For Soup - High School Never Ends

These guys had it right, the whole world is like high school and you'll never escape it.
Accept for one thing, they had the same three friends from school and I only have the one... But she's awesome, and all of the rest that have faded away over time don't compare and frankly, I don't need them.

I do love these guys though. A blast from the past every time I hear them!

We Are The Ocean - The Road (Run For Miles)

Yes, these guys again. But I've been listening to this song loads. Like, every time I put my music on and I get to a song that I don't feel like listening to I switch to this one, then I'll listen to other stuff until I get to another I don't want to listen to and I'll switch back again. There's just something about it that I love.

Taylor Davis - Game of Thrones Theme (Violin)

I absolutely adore this version. I mean, the original version is amazing, but this takes it to a whole new level. It's so hauntingly sexy. On another note, this woman is incredibly talented.

We Are The Ocean - This Is Called My Home

I've listened to these guys on and off for a long while now. This week my love for them was rekindled.

Honestly, I've never felt more at home than recently, and I am more safe and secure in who I am. Hell, I've even been bordering on optimistic for once!

Apologies for this being two days late. Personal matters got in the way.

I haven't really been aware of too much around me these past few days. The world has been fuzzy, my head stuffed with cotton wool and I've been in a lifeless daze at times. But one thing that I did notice was this song. It kept popping up when I needed to relax some. I was hearing it in almost every place I went. And so, it is the song of the week instead of the one I originally had planned.

Brand New Day - Joshua Radin

This one is more for the lyrics than anything. I've been listening to it a fair bit recently because of the words.

Kate Nash - Birds

I like this song a lot right now. It makes me think of some of my favourite friends. Yeah, I know that's been a theme recently, but I love them lots. So nurr.

Bowling For Soup - 1985

I love this song. It reminds me of one of my favourite people. We did used to sing it together all the time after all.

Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats

I haven't really listened to music at all this week, so I don't actually have a top song this time.
However, this is one of my all time favourites. A really nice song to chill out to and one that holds a lot of strong memories for me.

Ed Sheeran - I See Fire

This is the first Ed Sheeran song that I've actually listened and paid attention to, and I have to say that he's a pretty talented man.

I've been going through a tough time with the family, and this song has been keeping me going. It hasn't been stopping the depression, but it has been helping it. So that's a positive.

Frozen - Love is an Open Door

Still love this film. This is my favourite song.
I wish that love was like an open door.

Frozen - Let It Go

I watched Frozen on Thursday. I know, I know, I'm SUUUUPEERRR late to the party, shut up...
BUT. This is the most beautiful sequence in the entire film and I like it so much it hits me in the heart places and makes me cry when I watch it. So it's my Song of the Week.
However, next week, once I've watched the film a couple more times, will more than probably be my favourite song from the film. So you have that to look forward to!

Dragon Age Origins - Ferelden At War

I LOVE this game. It is honestly one of my all time favourite games, beaten only by Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.

I have the scores from both games on my iPod and, I have to say, this is my favourite song out of them all. There's just something so powerful about the composition that makes me feel like I too am heading into war against a horde of Darkspawn with my faithful Mabari at my side...

Linkin Park - Castle of Glass

I've been writing a book. And, for me, most music is quite a distraction. However, I do have a playlist that has a bunch of songs that inspire me to feel something, and songs that have helped me to create and envision the ideas that are going on in my story.

So needless to say, I haven't been listening to much else aside from this playlist. This is one of the songs that has been a huge help and inspiration for my book and I've come up with a lot of ideas and storylines whilst listening to this one.

It also gives a hint to what kind of story my book is.

I watched Wreck-it Ralph with my niece on Thursday when we were both feeling ill. Now I can't get this bloody song out of my head!

First Song of the Week for 2014 is the main theme from Pacific Rim. I've only recently seen the film, and I have to say that my favourite thing about the movie is the soundtrack. I just love it.
